Mak A Kishie Needle, Dye

Traditional Shetland reel from Tom Anderson’s ‘Ringing Strings’ . He notes: "A little traditional reel from the playing of the late Peter Fraser. ‘Dye’ was an affectionate term for Grandfather on the West side of Shetland. A Kishie is a form of straw basket which was woven using a wooded needle very similar to a fishing-net needle. So, the title can be interpreted as - Make a Kishie Needle, Grandad’. (Ringing Strings p.85)

There is an excellent recording of Tom Anderson playing this reel in 1970 on the Tobar an Dualchais website
