Sam’s Delight

‘Sam’s Delight’ is a reel I composed after watching on at one of my pet dogs Sam’s delight at finding a bone she had buried the day before! The tune will feature on my next solo album (release date TBC). My cousin Colin Nea has recently recorded Sam’s Delight for his new Button Accordion album. I look forward to hearing Colin’s version of the tune. Regards. Enda

Sigh! Four out of five contributions so far are your own compositions, at least under the entity of ‘EndaS’. So, we have that confirmed, you love your own compositions that much you just can’t resist. Is it really that impossible to honour that simple request of our webmaster? But, hey, I guess there are folks that are an exception to the rules, eh? I have enjoyed some of your attempts at composition, but this ain’t one of those, sorry.

Why not start your own website? Oh, I almost forgot, you have got your own website. No surprise there then…

http://www.endaseery.com/

Oooh! Scary!

You can go off in a huff now and have one of your fits… 😛

You must have little to be doing ceolachan with your constant blabbering about rules and what not. My tunes are traditional, thats why I post some of them here. My tunes are also posted on my members page but I have posted some on the tunes section cause they have been commercially recorded as is the case with Sam’s Delight for Colin Nea’s new album to be released soon.

Here is Sam’s Delight being played in a set of my tunes.

I am all for self composed tunes being up here that are as traditional sounding as Enda’s. I listened to that soundcloud link and the tunes sound as if they have been around for years.

Thank you I ♥ Dow. I appreciate your comments especially that ‘the tunes sound as if they have been around for years’. Soon there will be links on my website for ABC and sheet music for my compositions.

Ceolachan what is your exact role here, Jeremy’s sidekick? Assistant? General attacker of ‘TRADITIONAL’ composers?

Posted by .

~ | ABGG2 dGBd | ~ 9/16? 😏

😛 The expected hissy fit, YOU are TRADITION, WOW! I’m surprised those other suspicious aliases haven’t arrived to sing your praises again… Maybe there hasn’t been enough time yet?

And dear ‘I ♥ Dow ‘, who has a passion for the ‘new wave’… "~ sound as if they have been around for years." I’ll give you that much, at least within the last decade or two… 😀

"TRADITIONAL" what? Yes, there have been your sort, and mine, around for centuries… Don’t flail out and tar someone else because you don’t like me showing you up for being obsessed with yourself. Jeremy is innocent, except it would be good if, like he has done with a couple in the past, he put a stop to your focus mostly being on your own navel, unable to consider others, or, to be more cutting, the more positive aspects of ‘TRADITIONS’… Courtesy and respect wouldn’t go amiss, but as you’ve shown neither on site here I can’t see extending the same your way.

My main interest is on the music here and rarely is it distracted, except occasionally by this sort of thing, which only takes a minute or two out of more interesting and rewarding activity… Knowing I’m only a slight irritation to the ego-centric, too caught up in their own magnificence, you will just continue as you have whatever I might say. Like an out of control HGV, you can’t really stop their onslaught, you just have to step aside.

Jeremy is innocent here, so don’t drag someone else into this. I’m just glad that you’re in the minority and that there are many fine tunes out there and players to help make a better and more considerate balance to it all, to welcome folk in and be inclusive, instead of the few that are full of themselves having too big an influence on where ‘tradition’ goes and how it develops… Time will tell, but, my sense of things, your ripples will be lost on the greater lake of it all… That’s just my opinion, and I don’t look for others to agree, especially not someone who thinks so highly of themself.

However, best of health to you and yours and your music too… It’s a big world and a big website and it is easy to avoid the pong where necessary… Maybe like a well managed compost it will eventually mature and be of use? Maybe not…

"~ sound as if they have been around for years." - within your lifetime ‘I ♥ Dow ‘? 😀

You actually make me laugh. Love it

I did enjoy the soundcloud link, if not quite the tunes and arrangements, but that’s just my opinion… At least you’ve offered audio for this submission, always appreciated, whatever the tune, and whoever… 😀 No doubting you had fun…

As for being obsessed with myself, your one to talk!

Bit harsh ‘c’.

Enda is a top flute/whistle player and a really good composer judging by the tunes in his profile.

It’s just a shame that he supports Liverpool FC really 🙁

Not making sense there waffler. ‘I did enjoy the soundcloud link, if not quite the tunes and arrangements’. Yeh the link is the tunes and arrangements if I’m not mistaken?

K: Gmaj means all every c/C is natural, or as you’ve transcribed ~ =c 😎

Oh, since you seem to not have quite understood keys and the like, time included it seems…

It doesn’t surprise me that you ‘don’t understand’… We’ll leave it at that. In your world it doesn’t make sense that someone wouldn’t praise everything you do, eh?

Back to the music…

We’ll have to disagree here dear ‘I ♥ Dow ‘… 😀

Ha ha this gets betterI ♥ Dow . The last time I argued with ‘c’ I got banned for a month for a wait for it ‘cooling off period’! Classic.

Ah Mr Dan or should I say I ♥ Dow. I liked your last comment until you mentioned the Pool.

No no ceolachan that C# is there correctly. I put it in the tune on purpose and people have commented it that it works though I’m sure you will find something else a miss. Just my opinion mind in my ego driven world.

Posted by .

There isn’t a C# in it? And if you bothered to check the sheet music in something like tune-o-tron, while correct, the naturals are unnecessary and it looks a mess. http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html

Not to mention the bar with the wrong number of notes.

Looks like ‘c’ has a friend

B/=c/d triplet should have been e/f/g as changed now.

I’m only trying to understand why you’ve notated all the Cs as natural (that’s what the = sign means after all), when that’s a given due to the key signature? A C# is ^c

So from the link provided, I hear something like this (with the ABC tidied up a little)

X:1
T: Sam’s Delight
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel

[2 B2GB ABGB | cEE2 GABc| dAA2 d2e/f/g | fdcA G4 |]

| ABGG2 dGBd | which is an added quaver to the bar, perhaps you mean | A/B/GG2 dGBd | ?

I don’t know of course, you wrote it, I’m just checking the ABC is right before the sheetmusic goes up and is stuck permanently and wrongly.

Sam’s Delight

This is a nice little tune but there are faults in the transcription. Can I suggest the following changes to the B-part? You still have a bit of time to change it if you go to the ABC and click on "edit", but only you can do this, Enda. You need to alter the note groupings so they add up to the beats in the bar, take out the nat signs as they are redundant and add in repeat bars:

T: Sam’s Delight
M: 4/4
L: 1/8

2 B2GB ABGB | cEE2 GABc| dAA2 d2e/f/g | fdcA G4 ||

Sorry that should be:

Thanks a million Dow for your help. I have made those changes along with putting in the ^c for the C# which I put into in the tune when I composed it for bar part a, bar 2 and near the end of part b.

The C#s sound great. Looks like you just got there in time as the sheetmusic has now been generated.

Is this reel

ceol lost his cool speak spark bark at the C-through tree that hid the forest of guesses, spare some fencing fancy for misplaced fame and shame mates fade in the face of grace notes a dash of trash and splash quotes this mad slam match no match for Sam’s delight a match scratched alight off the bocsa on the ear of corny, thread carefully, you’ll break an egg skullduggery!

birlibirdie are you on something cause that’s just weird

C-ing the wood for the forest ~ snicker snack went the vorpal blade

Thanks Smash & Dow for sorting this out in a more civil fashion. I enjoyed the madness brilibirdie. I’ve also enjoyed playing this after you lot made more sense of it, and it grows on you, despite all the baggage goes with it. There are many familiar parts to it, even a couple of bars I’ve used myself. It’s a fun tune to play, if not necessarily in the straight jacket the composer might like to keep it in… But I wouldn’t dare add a transcription of how I find myself playing it. 😀

Without wanting to emulate thesession.org’s greatest pedant (even greater than ceolachan!), the FAQs say nothing about "Newly composed tunes", only self-penned ones.

"Can I submit my own compositions?

Well… The Session isn’t really intended for that. If you do post one of your own compositions, then you must do your "penance", so to speak, by balancing each original composition with about five trad tunes."

Spur(t) of the moment

EndaS, I wasn’t on space cake when I came up with the above (It’s enough to be logged on to this website sometimes!) but I do know one wee birdie that’s going banana cake here, actually!
It’s a cute father-feathered sparrow (it’s got a bald patch, or so it seems) that has developed the habit of flying right into me kitchen through the sitting room windows (which are already open, ‘case you wondered!) and steals crumbs off me bread board. Bananas and nuts or what! -Quel voleur! (This is happening in Geneva: The sparrows own the place here, second only to the bonkers! -sorry; bankers)

Us too birlibirdie, a whole famly of them, several families, that occupy the nearby leylandii hedge. They are so used to me setting up meals for them that they come up close to the window when I’m washing the dishes or cooking and stretch their heads up to look over the window ledge and into the kitchen. They’re good at making me feel guilty. Unfortunately there’s also rooks and crows and wood pigeons that try to muscle in on it all. So I only do it now and then, when I can reduce the impact of the fatter birds. The sparrow population in these islands has been quite drastically reduced since the 50s…

Back to the music… 😉
