The Log Driver’s Waltz

A pretty Canadian tune written by Wade Hemsworth of Ontario (who has now passed away), who was inspired for this tune by how the log driver’s "danced" across the logs. . It’s fun tune to add some ornamentation to, and I often play with a little part after the B-part before I play the tune is played again. It goes like:

M: 3/4
L: 1/8
K: Gmaj
GA | B4 d2 | d3 c B2| A6 | G6 |

There’s also a version on but Kate and Anne McGarrigle for the National Film Board’s Animation. It’s at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upsZZ2s3xv8

This is here already somewhere… Unless it was removed because of some copyright hassle…

When I play it as a waltz, lot of people come waltzing because they know the tune…

Slide vs Waltz

Well, now I guess we have a log driver’s slide and waltz. The slide is hardly recognizable as the log driver’s waltz. Sorry I didn’t find anything when I searched Log Driver’s WALTZ, guess I should have just looked up Log Driver’s instead. Oh well, now we have the waltz and the slide.

No Tate, that person who submitted the 12/8, it seems, lifted it complete from elsewhere, and obviously with little or no understanding of the melody or meter. It seems to be someone’s attempt to transcribe a waltz in 12/8 time. But, it actually isn’t the same tune as here. I’ll be adding that waltz soon…
