Castle Stalker {Strathspey}

This tune reminds me of a magical family holiday I had, as a boy back in the early ’60s on the island of Kerrera, by Oban.

Anyone interested in hearing this wee Strathspey, can do so by following the links below, where I play it as part of a set of 4 of my own tunes.

On the YouTube video, I used two tracks of Nyckelharpa to play it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTYf3fNJeOI

On the Vimeo version, I played Nyckelharpa, Mandolin, Tenor Guitar, Fiddle & Tenor Banjo: https://vimeo.com/50066781

Cheers,
Dick

P.S. I wonder if there’ll be a section for Strathspeys, in the new version of the Session, which I believe will soon be launched?

Castle Stalker {Strathspey}

Here are a few interesting facts about this Castle.

It is visible from the A828 road around mid-way between Oban and Glen Coe.

The name "Stalker" comes from the Gaelic Stalcaire, meaning "hunter" or "falconer", which is appropriate for me, as, in my time, I have worked full time as both a Gamekeeper & Falconer.

In recent times the castle was brought to fame by the Monty Python team, appearing in their film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It also appeared in the film Highlander: Endgame.

There already is one, in this version… you should have put this in it!

Nice, I did a search before posting this, but didn’t find one. :-(

Can you post a link to it, because I still can’t seem to find it.

Cheers,
Dick

He means there already is a category "strathspey". In fact there has been as long as I have been a member here - quite a while now although not as long as yourself.

Thanks NCFA. I see what you mean now. ….. Duh! :-(

Don’t know why I didn’t spot that.
Fact is, on a further extensive search, I have managed to find a Pipe tune which has this name, so I’m going to have to change the name anyway, but I don’t believe there is a way to delete tunes.

Perhaps we will be able to delete them with the new system & then I can start again.

Cheers,
Dick

Stalker Castle

Dick, you might be interested in this unusual tune I used to play. In the book it was notated in 3/4, but I have changed it to 6/4 as I think it makes more sense that way. To me, at least!

Stalker Castle/Castle Stalker

The Iain MacInnes track on Sealbh (2009) is the same tune as the one I’ve given.

Castle Stalker / Gylen Castle … ;-)

Thanks Nigel. I’ve now changed the name of this tune to ~ Gylen Castle.

All I need to do now is get Jeremy to delete this tune & post it again, with its new name. ;-)

Cheers
Dick
