I have stumbled across where someone has ascribed this to the publisher John Young, but I can find nothing to confirm this…

Never mind the B….

The abc seems to have been lifted from Colin Hume’s site. I didn’t know about any Playford connection, and it’s not in the Barlow compilation which goes up to ‘ca. 1728’ - ?

Anyway, it’s in a few lesser known Scottish collections as Old Age And Young.

…and…

thanks for posting, I didn’t have the last strain beforehand.

Matt, what ‘lesser known Scottish collections’?

Thanks Weejie…
