Will You Come Home With Me?

A rollicking little jig that I hear in sessions around Toronto, and that Danu pairs with Fraher’s on their first eponymous CD. It sounds to me as though they play it a little differently than transcribed here--putting a B instead of a c in the middle of the AcA thingy in the third, seventh, eleventh and fifteenth bars sometimes--but maybe not.

Enjoy!

I’ve wondered if anyone else plays or hears this at sessions…always thought the title was appropriate for the pub scene, snicker. I know this jig with a different tag on the ending of each part, playing the last two measures as:

|~G3 AcA|BAF G2…|

Will you come home with me?

We often play this after “I Buried My Wife and Danced on Her Grave,” and then often when someone asks what the two tunes were that we’d just played, will inevitably laugh and begin to fabricate their own rude little narrative……there’s actually quite a body of tunes that fall into the “rude narrative” camp, that are fun to string together in creative ways 🙂

Funny you should mention it ..

Great wee tune! And we played it -- well the two of us who knew it did -- just Sunday past at a session somewhere in the USA.

Great wee tune

And, now I know a name for it! We do it following / Hag at the Churn. I have also learned it with G2G ABA in the 3rd bar etc. as Michael B. noted. A variation to the B part could be dcB cBA / BDd cAF/ G2G ABA / GAG GBc

Correct name?

There’s a different jig in O’Neill’s that uses the name “Will You Come Home With Me?” It’s a great name but should it really be paired with this tune?

Yes.

I’ve heard it played like this:

This tune is also on the Live at Mona’s CD, but the title is listed as “Will You Come With Me?”

Will You Come Home With Me, X:7

inspired by Cathal Hayden, but I couldn’t find a recording, so transcribed from recording by Three Mile Stone (Fiddle player Erin Schrader)

Re: Will You Come Home With Me?

The tune in Breathnach CRE2.8 “Tiocfaidh tú Abhaile liom” is only vaguely similar to this setting, or the other one in O’Neill’s (DMI.104). In fact it is more like Old Hag You Have Killed Me. (So I removed the link to that collection)
