First, the endings need to be against the bar before them, either as ~
|1 & |2 - or - |[1 & |[2 ~ ratther than floating out in space… And as to space, it is best, including for those that read ABCs, to space things out similarly to dotted notation, to show that intrinsic rhythm and phrasing in a melody… And, you’re missing a bar line…

As to comment on the actual tune? ~ at least there is ‘agreement’ between phrasing and parts, meaning it makes ‘sense’. With a little more time, it’s not a bad tune, has some humour in it, fun…

This act of ‘here I am’, someone joining to share their genius on first arrival, ain’t rare, sadly, and usually ends up with another stinker added to the database here, something half-baked or overly challenging or cute. This, I’m glad to say, doesn’t pong, but there is that naff title, I’m guessing ‘Americano’, which likely needs the story behind it being added here, the ‘why?’… 😀

Ordering tunes in four bar phrases is also the norm, and helps to show the phrasing inherent in most traditional dance tunes, those larger rhythmic blocks that also help the dance…

If it’s not yours, please credit the composer…

It’s not mine.

I first heard it on the Goat Rodeo Sessions album, and the contra band in Oberlin plays it at nearly every dance. This tune is certainly not mine. I don’t know who of the Goat Rodeo players composed it.

Attaboy

Love this song as done on ‘The Goat Rodeo Sessions’. Excited to try and learn it.

Re: Attaboy Composers

On the Goat Rodeo Sessions entry on Wikipedia, the tune is credited to Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile and Stuart Duncan. There is a lot more to this piece than is shown above; it seems to be a suite of music rather than a tune. ceolachan’s why? is spot on.
