This tune is the third in a serie of jigs, begining with Gander in the pratie hole followed by Donnybrook fair, as played by Na Fili in their third album.
Nice for cranns !
B part is mixed up…
With Tomas’ passing I pulled out his “New tunes for old” and looked for a few tunes of his to learn. Finding that this was the first tune he composed, I decided to learn it. Looked here to compare and contrast, and saw that this B part was quite different from his written version as well as the recording on Na Fili 3.
In the first four measures of the second part, the first and third measures should be where the second and fourth are…and vice versa. Second four measures, the last here is actually the first, the first here is the second, the second here is the third, and the third here the last. I apologise for the long roundabout way of this but as i am new to this site I haven’t learned how to change anything or post a tune.
This tune appears on Music at Matt Molloy’s https://thesession.org/recordings/52 , track 6, as ‘The Twin’, played solo on guitar by Arty McGlynn.
Setting #3 is from Arty McGlynn (see above).
can someone transcribe the part of that Music and Matt Molloy’s track where someone drops a tray with glass on and McGlynn plays a funny descending chord sequence? lol
Yes - someone can.
