I Lost My Love And Care Not
I got this tune from Oirialla, the new album from Gerry (Fiddle) O’Connor, Gilles le Bigot, Nuala Kennedy and Martin Quinn.
The sleeve notes say:
"I Lost My Love And Care Not was sourced from a recording of the McCusker Brothers Ceili Band made by Peter Kennedy in Kilcreevy, Armagh and Belfast in July 1952."
Midi file
Oooh! I quite like this midi file. It sounds funky. It isn’t what the dots say however and it isn’t how the tune goes. Where I tied the notes in the manuscript the midi file has opted to play a chord. That isn’t right and is, perhaps, a good example of why people should treat the midi files with caution.
Duplication - Damn it!
I did search for the tune first, both by name and by playing an excerpt into Tunepal and it didn’t come up. I see it is now also down as "My Love In the Morning".
Jeremy - How do you want to handle duplications from now on? Should I repost it as a setting in the other tune myself and wait for this one to be deleted as previously or is there an easy way to move the tune across?
Bundle and Go
And I see the same tune appears on the site in multiple places, initially posted by Jeremy as "Bundle and Go" but in Em. There is also a slide version.
Does the new look site give increased options for handling tunes like this?
Bundle and Go
I think there may be an ABC syntax issue.
ABC Explorer displays and produces MIDI for |c3 c2-d| as it would |c3 c2 d|
To get what the sheetmusic here shows it needs |c3 (c2 d)| but it plays that as |c3 c2 d|
Not what you want, but it displays |c3 c2-c| with a tie and plays it as |c3 c3|.
An ABC guru may be able to explain which is right.
I am not too worried about it. The sheet music is correct. If the midi generating app doesn’t interpret that correctly then that is not my fault. I am not going to make the sheet music incorrect just to satisfy a midi file.
Bundle and Go, Tie or Slur
The sheet music here may be right, but the ABC may be wrong and so may not result in what you mean when used in other converters. See http://abcnotation.com/wiki/abc:standard:v2.1#ties_and_slurs
(I often confuse the two and have to look it up)
Ok. I have amended the ABCs and I see the sheet music is still displaying correctly so I am ok with that. It seems that I can’t listen to the midi file here in work though as the computer is missing the requisite Quicktime plugin. I will presume that that has addressed the issue though.
I Lost My Love And Care Not, X:3
A setting I heard at a session here in Austin, and found via TunePal but wasn’t here on TheSession.org.
“Kiss The Maid Behind The Bar”
Found a version of this tune on a Franz Sanger & Susan Frances album called "Instrumental", with the name "Kiss The Maid Behind The Bar".
Re: I Lost My Love And Care Not
There’s a version of this on "Session At The Cottage" by Dan Compton and Fran Slefer, under the name "Bundle And Go":
