Appalachen

This tune is actually a Swedish Polksa performed by the folk super-group Vasen. It’s a great tune, and can definitely be played in a more Irish style.

Played in a more Irish style…

Yeah, why not? Played as an Irish reel, you would most probably play those pairs of crotchets as groups of quavers, like "~g2gf" instead of "g2f2", or "BGGB" instead of "B2G2", for example.

Those occasional Bflats in the B part are really cool!

Yeah, it’s a great tune! I just hope it’s alright that I’m positing tunes that aren’t traditionally Irish!

I refer you to the FAQs… https://thesession.org/help#faqs

"Can I submit my own compositions?

Well… The Session isn’t really intended for that. If you do post one of your own compositions, then you must do your “penance”, so to speak, by balancing each original composition with about five trad tune settings."

This tune however is fine, Vasen are great!

A tidier setting…

In ABC has been added to match yours Nate.

Polska??

I’m not an expert on Swedish music, but a polska is usually in 3/4. Maybe there’s such thing as a 4/4 polska, but I’ve never heard of one. I would say it’s probably a schottis (schottische).

There are (a few) polskas in duple time, but this isn’t one of them. It’s (from what I gather) a composition by Väsen’s Mikael Marin, and "Appalachen" translates as (you guessed it) "Appalachian" - so Schottis it ain’t either.
