One of the many tunes that gets called "Jig Away The Donkey". Judging by its alternative title "Jigging The Donkey", I would guess that this is the original "Jig Away The Donkey", and that it may have been played in a set with "The Fair-haired Lass" and "The Piper On Horseback" at some point, causing name-confusion. For backers, this is one of those weird tunes that seem to drift between Ador and Dmix like "The Bank Of Ireland" and "Rakish Paddy". To a certain extent both parts work in both modes, but it probably makes more sense to make it Am chords resolving to Dmaj at the end of each phrase, so that the 2nd part links nicely with the 1st and it makes sense as a whole.

This tune is on Henrik Norbeck’s index, and features on Arty McGlynn and Nollaig Casey’s "Lead The Knave", which is excellent and I can’t believe it hasn’t yet been posted in the recordings section of this site. Anyone?
