Skye Air / Unknown Air
Thanks must go to Nigel Gatherer for this one! I first heard it off the Blazin’ Fiddles album "Magnificent Seven", played by Iain MacFarlane, before I purchased "Affric" by Duncan Chisholm and came across it once more, titled "Unknown Air" in that instance.
I failed to find any information on its source myself, except that it was old! Hence this discussion https://thesession.org/discussions/31609 and Nigel’s excellent answer:
The tune is from the Patrick MacDonald Collection (1784), where it is given no title, but it’s annotated "Skye Air" - like many of the tunes in that collection, which is why there are a few tunes called "Skye Air" or "Skye Dance".
Setting 2 above comes from Nigel…
