Dinny’s Trip To The Gaeltacht

Composed by Dinny McLaughlin, fiddler with the Derry-based group Aileach, this tune was published on their debut album from 1975.

Dinny’s Trip To The Gaeltacht

Dinny McLaughlin is a great fiddle-player and composer from Inishowen in Donegal, and that’s where his band Aileach (named after the ancient kingdom in what is now county Donegal) was based. He’s still going strong (in very fine form just last week at "The Donegal Master Fiddlers" concert in Letterkenny) and still composing good tunes. He always plays this tune in G rather than A though; in G you get the nice open strings on the fiddle, (and no need to move needlessly out of first position on the fiddle.)
