Rufus Guinchard got this double from Uncle John Peter Payne of Daniel’s Harbour, Newfoundland. I’ve given the tune as it fits most tidily in standard music notation, but I’ve got to say that in my head the A3 at the start of the turn is actually the last note of the previous phrase rather than the first note of the next. I don’t recall my source for the tune, but it’s been frequently recorded.
I’ve given it as I play it on whistle; Rufus used a number of double stops on this tune, so fiddlers should definitely seek out a recording.
