The Miramichi Fire

I learned this near pipe tune off of the playing of Michael Anthony MacLean of Cape Breton Island from his CD Good Boy M.A. On Paul Cranford’s website has has it attributed as an Acadian pipe tune. Michael allegedly learned this tune from some Acadian fisherman while they were in Cape Breton. I like the unique feel to the first half of the tune. Another name for it is Willie D.’s Favourite. Cameron Chisholm learned like tune from his father’s lilting, and named it after his father, (who’s name was Wille D). Brenda Stubbert recorded a version quite different from this version, using the name Willie D.’s Favourite. It can be found in Brenda Stubbert: The Second Collection published by Paul Cranford.

The Miramichi Fire

Great tune!

Yes, a lovely tune. I’d initially thought the two ABC submissions were the same, but after listening to some recordings of this and reading through both I noticed those few subtle but interesting differences. I particularly like that C natural ~ | gfge d2 d=c | ~ which is a lovely variation/change… Glad to see this here, thanks.
