Young Collins

Essentially, I’m just filling one of the gaps in the recording listing recently submitted by member “ceolachan”.

A Cotswold morris tune, used to accompany a dance of the same name. Known to English melodeon players everywhere, so it often turns up in English traditional music sessions.

There are several village versions of the “Young Collins” dance: Bidford, Bledington, Field Town, Longborough, Oddington and Sherborne. My transcription is of the Bledington tune, with my own chord settings added.

A very simple tune, yet surprisingly pleasant to the ear. So perhaps useful to someone making their first inroads into playing traditional music.

Setting #2 is how it gets played in Mid Wales (probably via Sussex/Surrey) - just a very small difference in bar 1.

I particularly enjoy playing this tune on a borrowed cittern.
