A tune that was popular with the ceilidh bands in my neck of the woods in the 1960/1970s.
The first part of the tune is 8 bars repeated =16 bars.
The second part of the tune (16 bars, not repeated) equates to the song: When Johnny Comes Marching Home”: (AKA “Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye” and “The Animals Went in Two by Two”.
We “resurrected” this tune recently when “stompy” jigs were needed when we were playing for a family barn dance. We set it with another old chestnut: “Oyster Girl”. The two tunes fitted together rather well.
When Johnny Comes Marching Home
Mix, I think someone will come along and say that the A part has a name of its own, or that it is used for a song. It won’t come to me just now though.
@David50 - You may well be right - but I’ve just found this on "Fiddler’s Companion"
