Got this one from the Peter Horan and Fred Finn “Music of Sligo” section on ITMA.
Lancers
You mean the Comhaltas Archives.
This has jogged my memory about transcribing the Lancers polka, or march, or whatever it is, that Michael Gorman and John Doherty played. We’re up to 5 Lancers jigs and 1 slide here.
I don’t actually remember which I got it from. I downloaded the whole batch of files to my computer when I found them online (audio watermarks and all). That was a year or so ago, I think. I was unable to find the link again when I posted the tune this morning, else I’d have posted the link too.
A tune from Peter Horan and Fred Finn, the recording may be heard at comhaltasarchive.org, and was presumably an outtake from the LP they made. Various tunes for the Lancers quadrille are to be found in the Irish folk tradition and those all have their counterparts in printed sources, some of them very old; far as I know this is unique, though.
The title is my own invention, to distinguish it from other Lancers tunes on this site.
Duplicate of https://thesession.org/tunes/13136 (which you commented on, Kevin). But I like “Sligo Lancers” as a more distinctive name. 🙂
Sligo Lancers
Sorry about the plagiarism, Sol. Honest mistake!
No worries, Kevin!
Though you did cause me a bit of confusion over the weekend. I was attending a workshop with Paddy O’Brien and Nathan Gourley, and I played it for them hoping Paddy might know more about the tune. He didn’t, but Nathan actually ran it into Tunepal while I was playing and got a hit. I remembered talking about it here, so I claimed I was the one who posted it to The Session. Then I started wondering if I really had and looked it up on my phone, and when I did, I found yours instead of mine! I was all worried I had dreamed about posting it here, but I did a more careful search and finally sorted out what had happened later that evening.
