The Tipp Staff

Essentially, filling one of the tune “gaps” in the recording recently submitted by member “benhockenberry”

It’s from the William Vickers MS (1776) - with my own chord settings added.

Starts of easily enough in G major but later modulates into other major and minor keys in several places before returning to G major.

A tipstaff was an officer of the court who was sent out to execute warrants and the name derives from the staff that he carried by for protection.

The staff was made of wood or metal or both, topped with a crown. The crown, which unscrewed, was removed to reveal a warrant of arrest inside the hollow staff.
