In my neck of the woods this tune (under the name “Sherborne Waltz” is often included within a set of waltzes to accompany a ceilidh dance called: “the Waltz Country Dance”.

Under the name: “Orange in Bloom” it’s a Cotswold Morris dance tune from the village of Sherborne in the county of Gloucestershire, England.

Don’t know whether this is a coincidence, but less than a mile west of the village of Sherborne is a farm called “Oranges Farm”.

“Borne” or “Bourne” = River

Raven…

Thanks for this version!
Interestingly the version in Raven’s English Country Dance tunes is set rather differently to what is here - it’s set in 6 8 time and has a ‘c’ part with 4 bars of 4 4 at the start!

Re: Orange In Bloom

Interesting, and I too love Anahata’s playing.
The first part is in dotted 6/8 timing, then he plays the 4/4 section, and finishes up with the first part again in 3/4. These changes usually reflect different parts of the dance, whether done by a whole team, or possibly, in Anahata’s setting, for a solo jig (dance) competition.

Re: Orange In Bloom

The 4/4 part is for certain “corner crossings” in the dance. I’m pretty sure that at least the first time through the dance the B part is all 3/4,and subsequent corner crossings require 4/4 time. I used to dance the Sherborne tradition a very long time ago.
