Heart Of Man

Recorded in 1926 by Mike Flanagan: http://www.itma.ie/digitallibrary/sound/heart-of-man Note that his banjo was tuned CGDA instead of the modern tuning GDAE, thus he fingered the tune in what we would think of as G but it came out in C. CGDA was the original tuning for the tenor banjo, Barney McKenna popularized tuning it GDAE for Irish music, as it matched the range of the fiddle.

The 2nd tune Mike played was the Rainbow Schottische: https://thesession.org/tunes/12997 With his tuning Mike’s 1st part of the 1st tune comes out an octave higher than what I’ve notated here. The Rainbow is supposed to sound that way, but the Heart of Man tune sounds better with its first part down an octave.
