C: Ben and Lew Snowden
X:1 - The bare tune.
X:2 - My take on a suitable chord setting.
I hear d/-|d/d/^c/e/ d/d/=c/A/| in the second bar.
And I don’t hear a second c# in bar 6.
This looks like a straight copy (apart from the above transcription error) of the sheet music given at http://riskollective.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/genuine-negro-jig-from-carolina.html rather than what is actually played in the video clip at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nliiRDmBbEQ.
Yes, my ABC transcription was from the sheet music in the quoted link.
I’ve corrected the error that you spotted in bar #6 (c# changed to cnat).
However, I can’t find any error in bar #2.
Hi Mix, well there isn’t really an error in bar 2 (and bars 4, 6, and 8) other than the fact that the first d doesn’t get played there but gets played right at the end of bar 1 (and bars 3, 5, and 7) so it’s syncopated, as in, for example,
|f2 e3/2d/- | d^c/e/ d/d/=c/A/ | instead of |f2 e2 | d^c/e/ d/d/=c/A/ |.
It’s a subtle difference that makes all the difference (in the video clip, anyway).
Hope this makes sense.
X:3 above is a rough transcription of the first couple of passes through Snowden’s on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nliiRDmBbEQ.
