Violet Tulloch,Queen Of Lerwick

Not a ‘barndance’ of course but a lovely slowish air.
I think this is a beautiful melody that expresses the high esteem in which the lady of the title is held by the composer-Phil Cunningham, I believe. I first heard it played by Aly Bain on Transatlantic Sessions a few years ago. Hope my ‘abc’ technique hasn’t mangled the tune and aroused the wrath of the ‘abc polezei’. Lots of ornamentation required to add to these bare bones in order to bring it to life.

Violet is indeed the “queen” of accompanists. I have her cd with fiddler Willie Hunter which includes the famous “Cape Breton Visit to Shetland” by Willie himself.

cd is “The Willie Hunter Sessions”

The seventh bar of the B part of the first setting, |Bg ca d2 d2|, should be spaced over two bars like |B2G2 c2a2|d4 d4| or |Bg3 ca3|d6 fg|.
