The Empty Chair

In 1998 the Irish actor Brendan Gleeson was in Vancouver filming “Lake Placid.” He showed up one Tuesday at our session, borrowed a fiddle and joined right in. He’s a marvellous fiddler and we all got along famously. He joined us every week for a couple of months and we had a great time. He even came and sat in with a band at the ceili that we threw to celebrate my wife’s and my 30th birthday. When he left, there was a real hole where he had been, so I wrote this tune to fill the space.

If any of you see Brendan in Dublin, or elsewhere, pass this tune on to him. I’ve never gotten around to sending it to him.
