Éolie

A French Canadian tune by Raynald Ouellet. I heard it on Olivia Korkola’s CD “Playing in Traffic”. The first setting is the basic tune. The second setting is transcribed from her playing and shows some possible ornamentation and phrasing (for fiddle). A part in Am, B part in C.

Erm, yes?
Heard “Set a’ Ubert” by La Bottine Souriante on the radio last night and the first tune in the set, “Le Set De Americain” (https://thesession.org/tunes/2839), is very like this tune here. After further investigation, the tune that I have posted bears no resemblance whatsoever to versions of “Éolie” by Raynald Ouellet that I can hear on the internet. So it looks like it may have been misnamed on Olivia Korkola’s CD and is probably a variant of “Le Set De Americain”.

Re: Éolie

According to the liner notes here (https://www.allmusic.com/artist/olivia-korkola-mn0002573044/songs ), it might be a Pierre Schryer composition, which he plays on his 2008 album:

I agree that the A Parts of this tune and Le Set De Americain are very similar DonaldK, Pierre or Raynald (whomever composed it) may have been playing around with that one when composing Éolie. The B Parts are pretty different though.

Re: Éolie

I think, NfldWhistler, that allmusic have the details mixed up, as on Playing in Traffic (Olivia Korkola’s CD), which I have, Joseph is Pierre’s and Éolie is Raynald’s. This is also the attribution given in the Patti Lamoureux clip you mentioned above.
Thanks though for your interest and input. I shall continue hunting for conclusive evidence (er,… when time allows).
