Y Gwr A’i Farch

Welsh waltz that i played at a session in Llandeilo. This living version is in a different time than the version in the book; ‘Two Hundred and Fifty Welsh Airs’,that is in 3/4 time, and in the key of Gmaj. I will post this next…….

Pronounced……….

Gwr …………goooor
a’i…………….aaay
Farch………..varch (ch sounded as in ‘loch’)

X2

This is the version in the book; ‘Two Hundred and fifty Welsh airs’ but notated as a 3/2 rather than a 3/4 as in the book.

This is very similar to " Go to Berwick Johnny"

Re: Y Gwr A’i Farch

Yep, it sounds to me almost exactly like "Go to Berwick Johnny" to the point where I thought they are the same tune.

Re: Y Gwr A’i Farch

They are the same tune.

Re: Y Gwr A’i Farch

Ah OK. I thought there might be a slight variation in the two because this is listed here as its own tune rather than just put under "Go to Berwick Johnny." I really like Ar Log’s version of this one, in which it is played on either side with another tune.

" Go to Berwick Johnny"

That was a serious plan in 2014 for me if the referendum result had gone the wrong way. :)

Re: Y Gwr A’i Farch

It did go the wrong way, JJ. :-)

"Go to Berwick"
I’d love to go to anywhere in the UK. Still haven’t been. I think I want to go to Newcastle most because of the beautiful Northumbrian smallpipes.
