This is an old Scottish reel composed by William Marshall. It is written in the key of F, but it is also sometimes played in D.
…and where did you get it, dj?
Easter Elchies is an estate which was owned by the Earl of Findlater. Easter Elchies House was built in 1754 on the banks of the River Spey. The famous MacAllan distillery is on the estate, which is not far from Dufftown. The tune was published in Marshall’s 1822 collection.
Jerry Holland recorded the tune on his 1982 album ‘Master Cape Breton Fiddler’. He also published it in his 1988 collection as "Easter Elachie".
I learned it from a group in Edinburgh that I sessioned with earlier in the year. I was surprised that it wasn’t up on here already.
