Norwegian M.T.B. [Song].
A waltz that is very much part of the repertoire "up north". The title refers to the motor torpedo boats that were stationed in Shetland during WW2. I believe this is a Shetland tune, and seem to recall reading a claim to its composer. Can’t find it right now.
The MTB flotilla worked closely with the "Shetland Bus", and played an important role in helping save lives during the Nazi occupation of Norway.
I learned it under the title "Norwegian MTB Song", but haven’t found words to the tune.
There is a tapsalteerie version doing the rounds, but I’ve never heard it played that way up north.
This setting is much the way I learned it.
Often played with other Shetland (and Orkney) waltzes.
Re: Norwegian M.T.B.
Just wondered if this might relate to the suite that Jenna Reid composed for a concert/presentation called "The Shetland Bus" which was performed at Celtic Connections in Glasgow and elsewhere a few years back?
