Prudhoe Mill

Chris ormiston is one of the best Northumbrian Pipers around and he has written a lot of good tunes. This one won him the Northumbrian Pipers’ Society composition competition in 2014.
Of course its a rant rather than a reel, so play it with plenty of swing and make the individual notes distinct.

Is this tune composed in honour of the bog roll factory?

It was a major employer in its Kimberley-Clark days. It probably still employs a good few.

A friend of mine worked there for a while. He was operating machinery that created perforations in the paper - referred to as "the perfs".

Knowing Chris Ormiston, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he named a tune he entered into a very august and serious competition after something as mundane and incongruous as a factory. Its still there but I’m not who owns it and what it makes these days.

I do like the tune though, especially the rolling arpeggios in the second part which make it sound three against two. very clever.
