Invergordon’s Welcome To Queen Elizabeth II. C: John Davie Burgess.

A tune brought to attention by Kenny:

It is not a strathspey, but a 2/4 pipe march.
Composed by Pipe Major John D Burgess MBE, (1934-2005).
You can render it as a 2/4 march by replacing the header with:

X: 1
T: Invergordon’s Welcome to Queen Elizabeth II.
C: John D Burgess
R: Pipe March
M: 2/4
L: 1/16
K: Hp

It does look like the proper title of the tune is the one in this submission.

The story behind the tune is given here:

http://www.ross-shirejournal.co.uk/Features/Reflections/22-Years-Ago-6446.htm

And a picture of the composer, playing on the day here:

Could just as easily be submitted in D major, but the Amix is suggestive of the pipe scale.

Good man….

Thanks for that, "Weejie", and for all the research you did in chasing up the background to this tune. Much appreciated.

Played live by Eddie Seaman and Luc McNally, whose music I really enjoyed at Stonehaven Folk Club last night :
[ Deserves more than the 64 "views" it has at the moment. ]
