The first phrase came to mind - thought it might be from ‘Deadly Buzz’, or poached from JACKB - started as a single that I set aside and started working on a double, while doing a little research into similar tunes (‘The Monsignor’s Blessing’, ‘The Virginia’) and the history of the area (Hayesville - Nantahala, NC, USA - George W. Hayes).
Turns out that at the same time and unbeknownst to me, my father had been informed that a friend of his, whom I had known since a child, had just passed (born in Virginia and likely a Republican).
