Re: Cam Ye By Athole

I was looking for ‘Bonny Prince Charlie’s March’ as recorded by Boys of the Lough back in the 70’s, this is the closest I’ve come to it!

Re: Cam Ye By Athole

I would have put this down as being one of those dotted 6/8 Marches that we love in Scotland, not a waltz, although when the previous 2 members submitted their posts, we did not have a category for marches.
Indeed, it is: this is how it is shown in the Glen Collection in the National Library of Scotland: a great resource for these older tunes! See: https://digital.nls.uk/special-collections-of-printed-music/archive/105013262
Note that Athol is variously spelled Atholl, Athole or Athol!
And if you’d like a sung version, here it is in it’s original timing of a dotted 6/8: subsequent versions by various of of our folk bands transmuted it into 4/4! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVvw9uVjpjo
