Barney Conlon’s

I learned this tune from Pauline Conneely at the Catskills Irish Arts Week last week. I can’t find any settings of it under this name or with snippets of ABC on thesession. Since it’s such a simple tune, I would not be surprised to find out a duplication of a barndance or hornpipe in another key, though!

It’s in A, but no G sharps are in the tune, so it’s easy enough for D instruments.

Per http://www.johnmckenna.ie/Reviews, Barney Conlon was an early twentieth-century fiddler who recorded several sides with John McKenna.

Definitely related to Skinner’s Gay Gordons

Thanks, Toppish! What Pauline taught was a barndance/hornpipe rhythm, with a midtempo swing, far from a Gay Gordons march rhythm. But this seems to be closely-related enough to merit a merge.

I got the same tune from Pauline last weekend. She was supposed to have Liz Carroll write it out for me, but we never got around to it. I now need to determine the chords for the group to use.
