Although I sadly have no idea of the origins of this piece,I first heard it being played by a morris side band at Broadstairs folk week, and the next day I learned to play it at a workshop on fiddle as a non-tune instrument. I like this piece because it is so simple to play, but sounds so beautiful and provides plenty of room to add in ornamentation and to slide between notes. this is the first piece I have submitted to the session, so I hope I got everything correct :)
This is in Playford’s "The English Dancing Master" 1651. I don’t know if it’s in any other collections though.
I would think that the keynote is G so I’d be inclined to have the key as G minor or maybe G Dorian.
Thanks for the transcription :)
i think you may be right about the key, so i have updated it. thanks for the info on the piece as well
