Hugh Smith’s Farewell

Composed by Bill Black, and published in 2000 in an edition of "Treoir" magazine, along with a second "Hugh Smith’s Reel" as a musical tribute to Mr. Smith. I have no information about Hugh Smith other than he was " a man who made a lifelong and heroic contribution to the traditional music movement".
This reel, and the 2nd, were both recorded by Antóin MacGabhann on the double CD, "Lamh Ar Lamh" - CD #2, track #4. That is the only recording of the tune I am aware of, and it would be a pity if it were to disappear.

Hugh Smith

Hugh Smith, from Cavan, lived on Long Island and was very active in the Irish American Club in Mineola, New York. He was very involved with bringing Irish musicians over to America.

Thanks….

Thank you for that information, Hugh.
