The Flood On The Holm

This reel seems to have vanished from this site. Lots of tunes with same name but couldn’t find this one.

Re: The Flood On The Holm

Feckin grand tune. Not for noobs. Robbie Hanna adapted it beautifully to the Uillean pipes years ago so I guess you might say it’s his party piece, or one of them for certain…

Re: The Flood On The Holm

The reason the tune disappeared is because it is just a mixture of James Scott’s Skinner’s tunes mashed together by Johnny Doherty. The parts from different tunes have been joined together

Re: The Flood On The Holm

Great. Which James Scott Skinner tunes? I don’t play fiddle and while I respect the Scottish fiddling tradition, I don’t study it and would never have known that.

Re: The Flood On The Holm

See "The Auld Wheel" on this site

Re: The Flood On The Holm

Thanks. They’re quite similar, almost identical. I can see how Doherty probably just forgot (or never learned) the proper name of the original Skinner composition and developed his own setting.

Re: The Flood On The Holm

I actually wouldn’t have recognised it. Whatever, I think the Irish take is much nicer.
