There is 1 recording of this tune.
MacKenzie’s has been added to 1 tune set.
MacKenzie's has been added to 6 tunebooks.
Tune may have other names, heard it played by a great new group ‘Nuallan’ - a creation born out of the Gaelic College of Cape Breton. They have some great up-tempo sets of jigs and reels for step dancing. Hadn’t heard this reel before but it’s a cracker.
..But also in Seaforth Highlanders book (1936) as "The MacKenzies Reel", as I thought, a tune of many names.. How do I get rid of this setting and just add another name to the existing tunes?
There are similarities, but it’s not the same tune, jakethepeg, so I’d leave it.
I find it interesting that the A part of "MacKenzie’s" is most like the third part of "Put Me in the Big Chest". I first started hearing the 4-part setting in sessions in Glasgow and Edinburgh in the early noughties, and I never knew where it came from. It’s possible, I suppose, that the two tunes got mashed together.
