Keeping Up With Calum

Tune written by Wendy MacIsaac to commemorate her experience with her then 1-year old son.

I saw Wendy perform it at a concert, and thereby bought my first trad album. I listened to the CD all the way home, and had no idea how she was making those lovely sounds (bowed triplets). I bought my first fiddle a few months later, and now am hooked.

I love this tune, and it is not easy to stop playing as it wants to just keep circling back around. I introduced my transcription to our session and got lots of positive feedback, so am sharing it here.

I too, am obsessed with this tune. What a great tune! Thank you for posting. However, I would just suggest writing it out straight and not dotting the notes. If you play it dotted all the way through it would feel more like a strathspey. I know it is played with some swing on the Seinn album (love it!)

Cheers!

By the way, Keeping Up with Calum is a Reel.

Cheers 🙂

Great tune. Wendy plays it a bit slower on her album Seinn than she does in concert.
