General Longstreet’s

From Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883). Listed composer, Frank Livingston — little is known about him (may be a pseudonym), but he wrote a number of pieces honoring Southern leaders of the War Between the States in the U.S. (1891-1865). This one refers to the famous Confederate general from South Carolina, James Longstreet (1821-1904). Gerald Trimble (from Missouri) plays a bouncy version of this on his Heartland Messenger album; found also in the repertoire of Cape Breton fiddlers like Jerry Holland.
