Bennie´s An Dro

An An Dro I learnt from Benedikt, so I called it Bennie´s. If anyone knows anything about it, please share your knowledge.

Bennie’s An Dro, X:2

i stumbled on the second version under the name of “Kerfank 1870”. there also is a different tune with the same name on this site. it seems an dros are even more complicated in terms of names than irish tunes.

Re: An Dro

X:4 is around here somewhere already.
An Dro is a type of dance and not a tune name, so no reason to post all of them under one name 🙂

Re: An Dro

@swisspiper: If you don’t have another name for the tune, then you have no choice but to post it under the same name. But I think what you probably meant was that it can (and should) be submitted as a separate tune and not a ‘setting’ of another tune.

Kerfank 1870, a.k.a. The Wren

I searched Kerfank 1870 and most often found tunes that sounded like The Wren, a lovely an dro.

The 1st setting here is often attributed to the playing of An Triskell. They offered no title other than a Breton an dro. Others have pointed out that an dro, the turn, is a dance type. No title but the 1st setting is a great tune.

An Dro 1st setting

Stumbled upon this, learned it and transcribed it. Found the entry here hoping for a name. Yes, it does seem that an dros are more confusing than Irish tunes when it comes to naming them. It lies on the fiddle well in Bm and with identical finger pattern in Em. The tune suits the hurdy gurdy well and Sanne and Jimi really convey the joy of this tune.

An Dro, X:4

The gurdies in the video are in Cm. I transcribed it and transposed to Bm so it lies well on the fiddle. Em is a good fit too. Theirs is the best setting/rendering of the tune I’ve found.
