A tune that is usually taught to beginners in my area, and so is played occasionally at sessions. It comes up regularly in set dancing sessions.
This polka was composed by Mick Hanly. The ABC is virtually identical to that in Henrik Norbeck’s collection.
It’s possible this tune may have been picked up by local Bristol teachers from Kevin Burke’s visit to the city a few years ago.
Composed in G
Mick Hanly composed this in G major, though it’s commonly played in A now. He wrote it for his daughter, who was born two days before he recorded his second solo album ‘As I Went Over Blackwater’, on which Jessica’s Polka first appeared.
