I Rowed Up In A Dory

Epic tune played here in Newfoundland. Dropped down from Dmaj to Gmaj.

I Rowed Up In A Dory, X:2

This seems to be closer to what Harry played. ABC format corrected.

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

Where’s the differences from X1?

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

@Chellam: Bars 7 and 15 (counting from the first full bar) of your transcription contain too many beats. According to the Harry Hibbs recording, they should be | BGBd cAFA |. My preference would be to notate this tune in 2/4 (choosing ‘Polka’ as the tune type - even though it is really a march), but each to ther own.

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

@Creadur, I’ve seen this tune transcribed elsewhere in 4/4 as well. There’s a few Newfoundland tunes I would consider changing the time signature of.

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

Thanks CreadurMawnOrganig.
NfldWhistler, there is no difference. Trying to figure out how to remove the second one.

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

Chellam, you cannot. You would have to ask Jeremy, or, you could transpose one of them to Dmaj, which is the one I’d go with.

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

Thanks NfldWhistler. Dmaj it shall be.

Re: I Rowed Up In A Dory

Second setting as a fiddler’s tune from Newfoundland & Labrador Fiddlers abc collection.
