The Hip Flask
One of the first tunes I wrote, this tune was written when I was on a week-long trip to Montana to visit friends, among them, Doug and Jane (trad2nz here on thesession). At one point during a gig, Doug pulls out a flask to offer some scotch to the parched banjo player. I commented that I needed to get one, because they often come in handy. Doug suggested a store in which I might find one, but I looked there and didn’t see anything I liked. I told them this the day before I left, and the next day, wouldn’t you know it, they had made a present of their beautiful flask! At the time, I was nurturing a newfound fascination with tunes that switch modes, and this was my attempt with the F natural/sharp switches. I recorded this on my tenor guitar album, Giotár, and Jeremy asked that I post it in the tunes section.
