Re: The Blessings Of Silver

Yes indeed The Blessings of Silver…by Ed Reavey…and composed for his Best friend and fellow fiddler Louie E.Quinn from Camly South Armagh..They were neighbours Ed living in Maudabawn in Cavan…they never met in Ireland but became firm friends in U.S.A.
The tune was composed for Louie and his wife Marys 25th Silver Wedding anniversary..sometime in the early 1970s…Louie promoted Eds tunes unendingly….when he came to Ireland..as he did at least bi-annually all the Dublin Musicians had him go to their sessions to play the latest Reavey composition….we got them a week later in South Armagh…Later he helped with the publishing of Eds tunes..their styles of playing were quite similar…and Ulster in their style….I sometimes see some little bowshakes and runs in Eds tunes which remind me of my uncles playing….A lot of the Reavey tunes are called by Quinn names ….eg.Quinn of Armagh ..the lovely hornpipe…thank you

Wonderful. Thanks very much. Certainly, this has to be one of the most beautiful tunes ever written.
