Floating From Skerry

Transposed by myself from cassette “the Kathryn Tickell Band” side 2, track 3. Tune written by Lynn Tocker when she was fourteen years old after a boat journey from the Skerry Islands. The sleeve notes give no more information, not even the names of band members are specifically named.
After playing as many times as one wishes the whole piece finishes on the ‘A’ music

I like playing a few tunes together and, purely because I know it, I have followed it with “Inisheer” which follows on nicely from the ‘A’ music of “Floating from Skerry”

I would welcome any suggestions for other tunes to be put with it.

Having watched youtube clips I reckon Katherine’s rendering to be the best one.

Re: Floating From Skerry

Having considered things further I have decided against putting Inisheer with “Floating from Skerry” and am now contemplating adding “Gentle Maiden” and “Red Lark” to form a set of three.

Re: Floating From Skerry

I’m forever changing my mind about sets and on further consideration have decided NOT to follow this with “Gentle Maiden”. I’ve made a new set with “Gentle Maiden” as the last tune so I’m still experimenting.
Latest idea is to follow “Floating…..” with “Inion Ni Scannlain” so! any thoughts on that from anyone. Biggest consideration would be the pace/compatability of each tune possibly.

Re: Floating From Skerry

I know this will be inconvenient but it will sound pretty cool: follow with Archibald McDonald of Keppoch.

And two is enough in a set of slow tunes… but if you want to follow Archie with something fast, Julia Delaney is just waiting to chase him!
