Dinny O’Brien’s

It could be a Paddy O’Brien Tune, heard it on the recording of Dan Gurney and Dylan Foley, also on a CD from Colin Nea.

Re: Dinny O’Brien’s

Yes, this is a Paddy O’ Brien tune, though tastefully modified, presumably by Gurney and Foley. O’ Brien called it “Young Dan’s” (which is here on The Session, in a setting closer to the one in the book of O’ Brien’s tunes, published in 1992 by J.D.C. Publications, Troon, Ayrshire.)

Re: Dinny O’Brien’s

Actually, Dan Gurney got it from Seamus Connolly, who recorded it on a solo track on the duo album Banks of the Shannon (with Paddy O’Brien). It’s on Dan’s solo album as well as on the duo album with Dylan.

Re: Dinny O’Brien’s

Just to make it clear, this is not a Paddy O’Brien composition.

In this link you will see all the ABCs of all the tunes in the collection The Definitive Collection of the Music of Paddy O’Brien 1922-1991
(ed.Eileen O’Brien Minogue, 2009)

For the compositions you will see:

C:© Paddy O’Brien

But for the tunes that are not compositions and are arrangements of Paddy O’Brien you won’t see that. You will see this instead:

H:arr. Paddy O’Brien

And this is what happens with this tune.
