Lente In Laren

I learned this lovely tune from the mandolin playing of Baron Collins-Hill of Belfast, Maine at the Maine Fiddle Camp last summer. It comes from the fanstatic Belgian accordion duo Naragonia: Toon van Mierlo and Pascale Rubens on their recording Carabel. These folks need to be more widely known: their music is rich and their playing subtle and intuitive. Give a listen here:

I labeled this tune a barndance, though they call it a schottische. Whatever you call it, it’s not a fast tune.

Originally in F, I play it on an F whistle in D and have been learning my way around it in F on the concertina. Maybe at some point I’ll write out the transposition. I’ve written out guitar chords with a capo on 3.

Enjoy!

Here’s a transposed version. I play this tune on an F whistle with "D fingers."
