The Old Timer
"The Old Timer was composed by Damian Connolly a Co. Clare multi instrumentalist based in Connecticut, and features on his album, Inspired. Whilst involved in the film Jimmy’s Hall, John (Carty) was researching tunes popular in the 1920s and 1930s dance hall scene, and Charlie Harris came up with this charming barndance which he picked up in Boston many years ago."
From the liner notes of Settle Out of Court - John & Maggie Carty.
The version on the album starts out in C before shifting up to D, but I’ve only put the D version here.
Re: The Old Timer
The above sentence ‘Whilst involved …. Boston many years ago.", is about the second barndance in the Carty’s set,
and not about "The Old Timer".
Damian said that his uncle, Seamus Connolly, really liked the tune and wanted it to be dedicated to him.
But then Damian named it "The Old Timer" which might not have been to Seamus’s liking!
This tune needs to be played more!
