George Christie Of Fochabers By Colin Cambell

I have copied/transcribed this (as exactly as I can) from a pretty poor quality print - that must have been photocopied numerous times……and by listening to a recording of the tune (by the Fochaber Fiddlers)
There do seem to be some errata …in terms of beats per bar, in places.
Does anyone know the tune, who may be able to help straighten out the oddities.. so that this could be ‘on record’ accurately. ?? Please no hellfire and damnation - this is the first time I have tried this!!

Its a super wee tune, well I think so! but.. I do like airs and waltzes,

Re: George Christie Of Fochabers By Colin Cambell

Hi Emma - thanks for a nice tune. I worked with Colin many years ago, but haven’t seen him for yonks!

Your transcription is no bad, but some points:

1) You don’t put the composer’s name in the title. I think it’s important to credit composers, but you should do it in the comments.

2) The bars don’t add up, as I’m sure you know. This is how I’d do it:

D G>A | AB- B3 d | AB- B2 GA/B/ | c>B A>G E>D| C4 C>B, |
A,G- G2 G>A | EF- FD E>D | G3 A- AB/c/ | A3 D G>A | AB- B3 d |
AB- B2 GA/B/ | c>B A>G E>D| C4 C>B, | A,G- G2 G>A | EF- FD E>D |
G3 A B>A | G3 :||: A B>A | B>g g>B g>B | c>g g>c g>c |
A3 D A>B | A3 A B>A | B>g g>B g>B | c>g g>c g>c | A3 D A>B |
A3 G G>F | G e2- e2 G | F d2- d2 F | E c2- c2 E | D B2- B2 D |
C A2- A2 B | EF- FD E>D | G3 A B>A | G3 :|

Study this and you’l learn the hows and whys of ABC.

Re: George Christie Of Fochabers

Thanks Nigel,
I thought I’d ‘over’ credit the tune rather than the name get lost in the depths of comments..:-))

I tried to copy and paste your ABCs into my ABC program and it doesn’t recognise it …..erm am i doing something wrong?
