A traditional Swedish polska, one of many collected by Byss-Kalle.
Re: Polska Efter Byss-Kalle
As there seem to be more and more polskas finding their way on to this site (and nothing wrong with that, say I) would it be helpful to set up a separate category instead of listing them misleadingly as waltzes, which is the only way of including anything in 3/4 time?
Re: Polska Efter Byss-Calle
The polska was written by Byss-Calle - not collected by him. 🙂
I agree - there should definitely be a category for polska rather than putting it down as a waltz!!
Re: Polska Efter Byss-Kalle
I had a go at this great wee Polska myself, yesterday.
Well, having a Nyckelharpa myself, it was only a matter of time … 🙂
I have been reliably informed by my friend Chris Drinkwater, that:
“On the third Sunday in August, the little town of Älvkarleby celebrates its famous historic nyckelharpa player: Carl Ersson Bössa, known as Byss-Calle, who lived from 1783–1847. His tunes are among the best beloved in the nyckelharpa canon. So, now you know!”
Cheers,
Dick
Re: Slängpolska Efter Byss-Kalle
Chris Duncan & Catherine Strutt play the parts in the reverse order on their album The Red House – The Heritage Of The Scottish Fiddle.
